I always thought this invisible guy on the Powerpuff Girls was just funny because he’s obviously dressed as a pimp, but it only now occurs to me that maybe it’s not an invisible dog he’s got on a leash.
sometimes i think i’m arrogant but then i remember that julius caesar was kidnapped by cicilian pirates and when they demanded a ransom of 620 kgs of silver he got mad because he thought he was worth more than that and made them raise it to 1550 kg
I really wish that there were more cartoons out in the wild today that had the same formula that the original 1990s Batman: The Animated Series has. That show was just… perfect. I remember watching it as a kid, and now that I’m going through an episode-by-episode reliving of the series (courtesy of Amazon Instant Video), it’s just stunning how incredible the series was when I was a kid, and how just as remarkable it is to this day.
There is so much depth found in all of the characters, and it has a magnificent blend of Batman kicking ass, and simply being a human being at his very core. It’s not bland; it’s not over the top childish. It has dark, adult themes, and yet remains something I would absolutely show my children (if I had any. Ages five and up, of course.).
It doesn’t suffer from the problem (not really a problem, it’s just something that I personally dislike as a quality in children’s TV shows) of being over the top in its attempt to be a children’s TV show and/or cartoon. It’s difficult to get your head into the game of shows that try to hard to be attentive to the children (which in my opinion turns into stupidity the likes of which are similar to Spongebob Squarepants), and it’s difficult to think to yourself, “Yeah, I’ll sit down and spend some quality time with you. Let’s watch this televised cartoon that isn’t Batman.”
Don’t get me wrong here, either. Batman isn’t perfect. There is a lot of gun use, drug references, explosions, and all around violence. But you would imagine that it would at least seep into the minds of young children that these people who use the drugs, acts of violence, or guns are the ones who are getting thrown into the slammer by the masked vigilante.
I’m kinda rambling, now. I guess the short version is simply: Fuck Yeah, Batman! Fuck yeah, 1990s cartoons!
